Sandy Harrison

I am a Louisville, KY, native. I received a B.A. in Natural Sciences from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, and a Juris Doctor from University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law.

While in practice I concentrated in real estate, probate, municipal and ADA law. I retired from full-time practice when my daughters (now adults) were young. They were in fact the impetus for my interest in Melton — to reinforce my background, and to bolster my confidence raising children with a Jewish identity in a mixed marriage.

I have been a Melton Student for seventeen years. I am a two-time graduate of the Melton Core Curriculum and a continuing grad student. I currently serve on our local Melton Advisory Board and have served as chairman on two previous boards. Years prior to that, I served on the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival board.

During the growing season, I volunteer for New Roots Fresh Stop Markets — farmers’ markets that make fresh produce available to those in our area’s food deserts. I have also been active in our NCJW Nearly New clothing store and have volunteered at the KMAC (Ketucky Museum of Art and Craft) and the Speed Art Museum, in the ArtSparks gallery. I previously volunteered at Jewish Hospital in the mammography department, and taught beginning Hebrew to fourth graders at Temple Hebrew school.

I study karate and kenjutsu sword technique, enjoy taking photographs, read tarot for myself, and ride a CanAm motorcycle. Later in life I have also allowed myself to enjoy poetry…

I strongly feel the honor of becoming a member of the international board gives me not only the opportunity to give back to Melton, but to give the gift of Melton to others.
