The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning, a project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is delighted to announce the appointment of Randi Brenowitz as Chair of its International Board of Directors, taking on the organization’s lead volunteer and governance role. Brenowitz succeeds Don Katz of Columbus, Ohio, who served as Chairman since 2014. Don will remain on the Board of Directors and has become the Board Chair Emeritus. Ms. Brenowitz is the organization’s fourth board chair in its over 30-year history; the first chair was the organization’s founder, Florence Zacks Melton z”l, followed by her son, Gordon Zacks z”l, and most recently, Don Katz, who is the nephew of Florence and Sam Melton.

Brenowitz RandiMs. Brenowitz’s service to the Melton School began in 2007 when she joined the Advisory Board of the International Alumni Association. She joined the Board of Directors in 2011 and has held numerous roles including Development Co-Chair, Board Secretary and Vice-Chair. Ms. Brenowitz began as a Melton student in her home community of Palo Alto, California, and has been instrumental in bringing Melton learning back to the Bay Area in its current site at the Addison-Penzak JCC in Los Gatos, California. Ms. Brenowitz has also participated in many of Melton’s Travel Seminars. Ms. Brenowitz has served in leadership roles with many other Jewish organizations such as World ORT, the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation and Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School. Professionally, Ms. Brenowitz spent many years as a Human Resources and Organization Development consultant in the high-tech industry and then brought these skills into her work at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center, where she held several senior staff positions.

“It was a great honor to serve as the Chair of the Melton School,” says Don Katz. “I join with my fellow board directors in extending our congratulations to Randi on becoming the new board chair. I am very confident that under Randi’s leadership, the Melton board will continue to positively impact the destiny of the Jewish people by supporting an international community of Jewish lifetime learning that inspires engagement."

Newly appointed Chair Randi Brenowitz expressed, “I am deeply honored to be elected as the new board chair and look forward to working with my board colleagues to move Melton’s mission forward. I want to thank the Melton School board of directors for its confidence in me to serve as board chair, and I especially thank Don Katz for his many years of leadership. The Melton School is well-poised to enhance the knowledge base of adults through Jewish text-based curricula. We are excited to be in the process of strategic planning to determine how we can expand our reach and adapt our offerings so we can continue to inspire and empower adult Jewish learners around the world.”
