We are pleased to announce an exciting series of Melton Innovation Awards. The goal of the awards is to catalyze innovative thinking and extra effort toward recruitment of NEW, FIRST-YEAR CORE MELTON STUDENTS. The awards are being funded by Gordon Zacks, Chairman of the Melton Board of Directors, and the son of Melton's founder, Florence Zacks Melton, z"l. Gordon has great belief in the talents and determination of our directors to design new recruitment models that can be used into the future by all of our Melton schools.

Four Melton schools and one director will share the award money.
Launch Recruitment Now is a strategy advanced at our International Directors Conference in January by Rabbi Karen Strok, Director of The Stephen S. Wise Temple Melton School. She called her workshop "Plant Early and Reap What You Sow" and she emphasized that months of careful planning, collaboration with community rabbis and leaders, contacting potential students, holding Tastes of Melton recruitment events, and building momentum must begin now in order to "reap the benefits" of full classes in the fall. For this reason, we introduce these innovation awards NOW to launch what we hope will be a "bumper crop" of new Melton students worldwide.
One of our newest schools gave us an important reminder this year: Melton: The Best of the Best became the marketing mantra at Central Synagogue in Manhattan. The changing Jewish community landscape has made recruitment harder, but Melton learning is an enduring treasure that doesn't lose its value. Ninety adults began their Melton studies this year at Central Synagogue, and each one of them reminds us of the experience prized by so many Melton learners worldwide.
We hope you and your Melton school will utilize Melton best practices and your own original thinking to identify new target audiences and reach new students. There are Baby Boomers, new Empty-Nesters, parents of bar/bat mitzvah age students who are motivated to study, seniors living in Jewish residence facilities, professionals working in the Jewish community, Interfaith couples, post-conversion students, Jewish teachers, Boards and other Leadership groups, and MANY more potential Melton students. Let's put our heads together and bring them around the Melton table!
Please share your ideas for recruitment and we will make sure they reach other directors. We can all Win Big in Students this year and that's very good for the Jewish people!
